Kris Allen & Adam Lambert To Compete In ‘American Idol’ Finale

Kris Allen and Adam Lambert will face off for the title of the “American Idol” next week.

Show host Ryan Seacrest revealed that 88 million votes were cast after Tuesday’s dramatic show, and that only 1 million votes separted the Top Two. He delivered the news to Kris first.

“I can now reveal, after the nationwide vote, the first person competing in next week’s finale is… Kris,” Ryan said as the young contender’s jaw dropped and the judges’ table erupted in shock and glee.

And then Ryan delivered the news to Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert.

“The person competing with Kris Allen in the finale next week is… Adam Lambert,” Ryan said.

As Danny sang one final time, a very emotional version of “You Are So Beautiful,” Paula Abdul choked back tears.

Danny, until his elimination on Wednesday, had never been in the bottom three, and Simon suggested the results came as somewhat of a surprise.

“Look none of us would have predicted this guys,” Simon said.

But Simon suggested that Kris’ version of Kanye West’s “Heartless,” pushed the Arkansas singer into the final two.

“Kris, your second song in particular made you a contender,” Simon said. “You’re in with a real shot. Adam, you know we’ve always liked you. This could be, what we call, a big ding-dong coming up next week.”

While Simon suggested the competition next week will be heated, Wednesday night “Idol” guest Katy Perry dropped a big hint as to who she was rooting for.

While performing her new single “Waking Up In Vegas,” she appeared on stage in an Elvis-inspired costume, complete with a satin cape with “Adam Lambert” written on the back.
