Kriss Kross Rapper Chris Kelly’s Death A Suspected Overdose

Kriss Kross rapper Chris Kelly reportedly took hard drugs the night before his death, according to the police investigation report.

According to the report, obtained by Access Hollywood, Donna Kelly Pratt (identified in the police report as a “close friend,” but later reported to be Kelly’s mother), claimed her son had taken a mixture of heroin and cocaine the night before his death.

She told authorities that “they brought Kelly home to recover from his drug use and had done this several times in the past.”

Hours before he died, Kelly did a brief phone interview with “The Streetz Morning Grind” radio show with DJ Akini in Atlanta.

“You know how I party,” Kelly said

“You know I don’t wanna hear that,” Akini told him

“I know man, I apologize,” Kelly told him, before their chat ended.

On Thursday, Akini spoke out about their conversation.

“I was extremely shocked to hear of his passing,” he wrote in a statement on the station’s website. “When you listen to the phone conversation, you can tell there is a lot going on in the background.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Kelly was pronounced dead at 5:33 PM at Atlanta Medical Center South on Wednesday.

Kriss Kross — Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith — shot to fame in the 1990s with hit songs like “Jump.” They were also well known for wearing their pants backwards.

Kelly Pratt and So So Def, the record label, released a statement on Thursday about the performer’s death.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved Chris Kelly has passed away on May 1. To millions of fans worldwide, he was the trendsetting, backwards pants-wearing one-half of Kris Kross who loved making music. But to us, he was just Chris — the kind, generous and fun-loving life of the party. Though he was only with us a short time, we feel blessed to have been able to share some incredible moments with him. His legacy will live on through his music, and we will forever love him,” the statement, posted on NBCNews.com, read.
