Kristin Davis: Elizabeth Taylor Actually Signed Off On Charlotte’s ‘Sex And The City’ Pooch

Kristin Davis’ “Sex and The City” character Charlotte had a dog named Elizabeth Taylor, and the actress revealed on Friday’s “Live! with Regis and Kelly” that the late icon helped inspire the canine part.

“The wonderful thing about our show… [was] we had such wonderful support from the entertainment industry and our writer Michael Patrick [King]… had gone to Elizabeth Taylor and asked her about the whole storyline, because remember it was the dog and Charlotte had a miscarriage and she’s watching the life story of Elizabeth and that kind of gives her the gumption to get back up and face life and go on with her life,” Kristin explained to Kelly and guest host Russell Brand.

She explained that the screen legend quickly approved Michael Patrick’s request when he came to call.

“Elizabeth had been so sweet and she said, ‘Of course,’ and she sent us all gifts, and she sent us a handwritten card,” Kristin recalled. “And I just remember holding that card and thinking, ‘Elizabeth Taylor wrote this to me!’ It was just so generous and warm and wonderful and how you dream that all of those people are gonna be.”

Kristin said she still smiles when she thinks about how kind the two-time Oscar winner was to the “SATC” gang.

“When things like that happen — people that you’ve grown up watching — and they’re so generous and kind of better than you would expect them to be, it’s a wonderful thing,” she said.

As for Elizabeth’s passing on March 23, of congestive heart failure, Kristin added, “It’s sad.”
