Lady Gaga Shoots Down Plastic Surgery, Engagement & Drug Rumors

Lady Gaga might adhere horns to her arms and face, but she’s never permanently altered her body.

“I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have. I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification,” the singer told Harper’s Bazaar for its May issue.

“And how many models and actresses do you see on magazine covers who have brand-new faces and have had plastic surgery, while I myself have never had any plastic surgery? I am an artist, and I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me,” she continued.

The singer, who told the mag she avoids tabloids and gossip blogs, was happy to shoot down other rumors about herself, saying, “I’m not engaged, and I’m not a drug addict, but thank you for asking.”

Following her skyrocket to success, the New York City resident was tempted to head to Los Angeles, but said she found life out the West Coast jarring.

“I had all these number-one records, and I had sold all these albums, and it was sort of this turning point: Am I going to try and embrace Hollywood and assimilate to that culture?” she explained. “I put my toe in that water, and it was a Kegel-exercise vaginal reaction where I clenched and had to retract immediately… I ran furiously back to New York, to my old apartment, and I hung out with my friends, and I went to the same bars.”

The singer, who reportedly makes upwards of $62 million a year now, currently lives in her pre-fame studio apartment in Manhattan.

“I spend my money on my props and my creations. I’m an inventor,” she told the mag. “The true luxury of my success is that I can do it all on my own terms now, even though the roller-coaster ride is still going…I own the whole theme park, actually.”

Gaga also opened up about the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen in the interview, whom she credits as one of her fashion heroes. The Grammy winner claims McQueen is helping to shape her upcoming album, “Born This Way,” from the beyond.

“I think he planned the whole thing: Right after he died, I wrote ‘Born This Way.’ I think he’s up in heaven with fashion strings in his hands, marionetting away, planning this whole thing,” she said when asked about his death.

Adding to Gaga’s from the beyond claim is her record label’s decision to move the release of her album to coincide with the one-year anniversary of McQueen’s death.

“When I heard that, I knew he planned the whole damn thing. I didn’t even write the f***ing song. He did!” she added.

“Born This Way” (the album) will be available on May 23 and Gaga’s second single, “Judas,” will drop on April 19.
