Lara Croft Lives On In ‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot; Is Angelina Jolie Involved?

Lara Croft is the latest Hollywood character to get the reboot treatment as GK Films announced its plans to launch new “Tomb Raider” movies and it doesn’t appear that original franchise star Angelina Jolie will be involved.

Producer Graham King, whose credits include “The Departed” and “The Town,” announced that the first film in the series reboot is aiming to hit theaters in 2013.

The press release noted that the reboot “will create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft.”

“We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the ‘Tomb Raider’ phenomenon,” King said in a statement.

In 2004, Angelina said it was unlikely that she’d ever play the videogame heroine again.

“I don’t think so. I just don’t feel like I need to, because I felt very happy with the last one, which was kind of the one we wanted to do,” the actress told Ugo.com at the time. “The first one kind of frustrated us, because we were trying something new. The second one, I felt like that’s kind of how I wanted to do it, and I don’t really feel the need to do another one.”

The actress first played the gun-slinging treasure hunter in 2001’s “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and then again in “Lara Craft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life” in 2003. The movies were based on the popular video game, which made its debut in 1996, spawning 10 versions of the game over the years.
