“Dallas” star Larry Hagman has died.
The actor, who recently returned to playing J.R. Ewing on the TNT reboot of his show, was 81.
Family members said Hagman passed away at Medical City Dallas Hospital from complications of his recent battle with cancer, according to the Dallas Morning News
“Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” Hagman’s family said in a statement to the paper. “Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time.”
Hagman leaves behind his wife of almost 60 years, Maj Hagman.

Linda Gray’s publicist told KNBC LA she was with him when he died.
“Larry Hagman was my best friend for 35 years,” Gray said in a statement. “He was the Pied Piper of life and brought joy to everyone he knew. He was creative, generous, funny, loving and talented, and I will miss him enormously. He was an original and lived life to the full. The world was a brighter place because of Larry Hagman.”

The actor first revealed he was battling a treatable form of cancer in October 2011.
He took some time off from filming Season 1 of the reboot to undergo treatment.
“They’re not writing me out,” he told reporters back in January 2012 at the Television Critics Association panel for “Dallas,” regarding his break from filming. “But I have some time to make up in the next couple of weeks, so I’ll be working every day, I think.”
Filming for “Dallas” Season 2 is currently underway.
