Laverne Cox To Star In ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ TV Remake

Laverne Cox is about to do a time warp!

The “Orange is the New Black” actress will star in
an upcoming TV remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” Fox
announced on Wednesday.

The
31-year-old has been cast as mad scientist and “sweet transvestite”
Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a now-iconic character Tim Curry first made famous in the
1975 film which also introduced a then-unknown Susan Sarandon.

According to a press release, Fox will air its two-hour
“reimagining” in the fall of 2016.

The broadcast will coincide with a “Rocky Horror”
anniversary celebration. The cult classic is still shown in movie theaters
across the globe 40 years after its initial release, making it the
longest-running theatrical presentation in cinematic history.

Following the news, Laverne shared gratitude and enthusiasm
about the project on social media.

“I am so excited to be a part of #RockHorror
legacy,” she Tweeted. “#DontDreamItBeIt.”

Fox’s “Rocky Horror” has welcomed back original
executive producer Lou Adler, who teamed up with film, TV and Broadway producer
Gail Berman in 2014 to begin developing the update.

“High School Musical” mastermind Kenny Ortega will
direct, choreograph and also executive produce, the network confirmed.
