Lemon Aid: 5 Ways To Wear Yellow

In today’s Glam Slam feature: Both Kate Middleton and Jessica Simpson brightened up the fashion landscape choosing sunny yellow dresses this week.

Kate wore a $1,500 Roksanda Ilincic dress as she landed in Australia on Wednesday for the second leg of her big royal tour. Kate told a fan that “William said I look like a banana,” but I think the bold color looks great on her.

Don’t think you can pull off the bright hue? Here are a few ways to wear citrus… Lemon Aid, if you will.

GO FOR SMALL DOSES

A yellow dress definitely makes a look-at-me statement. For the citrus commitment-shy, try one piece at a time, like Jessica Alba at the MTV Awards this past weekend. A yellow blazer is super versatile and will look great with everything from a cute sundress to white jeans to tailored shorts. A yellow blouse or pencil skirt are also great choices. Just be careful with pieces you choose because yellow will highlight that body part. If your hips aren’t your favorite body party, wear yellow on top instead.

ACCESSORIZE

If you don’t want to invest that much into the yellow trend, use accessories instead to brighten up your look. A yellow scarf, necklace, belt, shoes or bag are all fashionable ways to add a chic spring-y touch to your wardrobe.

TRY A MELLOW YELLOW

Love yellow, but not sure about going so bright? A more subtle hue is the answer. A lighter shade or even a pastel yellow is just as pretty.

UP THE GLAMOUR QUOTIENT WITH A RED LIP

While both Jess and Kate went with natural looking makeup and a nude lip. I love a red lip paired with yellow. I still vividly remember Michelle Williams attending the Oscars in 2006 in her yellow Vera Wang gown, which she wore with a red lip and it was just gorgeous. An easy way to make a glam impact.

DIP YOUR TOES (OR FINGERS!) INTO THE YELLOW TREND

Love the color, but not ready to commit to a dress or even accessories? Go for a yellow mani or pedi. An instant mood booster, easy to do, and beyond affordable, nails are always an awesome way to try out a trend.
