“Shutter Island” may be a thrill ride, but Leonardo DiCaprio said filming didn’t scare him.
“I never had nightmares,” he told Access Hollywood at the film’s New York premiere on Wednesday night. “That must’ve been somebody else.”
His comments came on the heels of an interview with Parade.com, where the star admitted the dark thriller got in his head.
“It took me back to the one time I really remembered my dreams because I usually don’t. But when I used a nicotine patch when I was trying to quit smoking, I did have bloodcurdling nightmares of mass murders, and I woke up in the middle of the night and had to take the patches off,” Leo told Parade.com. “I guess I had moments like that in the film.”
In addition, he told Access his work on the prison drama was “intense.”
“We shot in an abandoned mental institution in Medfield, Mass., and it was one of the more intense filming experiences I’ve ever had for sure,” Leo said. “But at the end of the day, that kind of stuff is challenging and that’s what I love to do and that’s why I’m here.”
As for recent rumors that Leo and Robert De Niro would team up for a new gangster film together with “Shutter Island” director Martin Scorsese, Leo said there’s no news yet.
“We have a couple of things in development,” he said. “I’m not quite sure, to be completely honest. But look, any time I get an opportunity to work with Mr. Scorsese, it’s an honor. I’d be happy to come on board with anything.”
