‘Let The Music Play’ For ‘Fraggle Rock’

Children of the ‘80s rejoice!

“Fraggle Rock” is likely to be brought back to life on the big screen, according to Brian Henson, the son of Jim Henson and the co-CEO of the Jim Henson Company, in a new interview with MTV News.

“[Fraggle Rock is] still in very active development. Very active development. That has a very strong script,” Brian revealed.

Jim Henson created the original TV show, which ran from 1983 to 1987 on HBO, and starred Muppet-like puppets. The series’ creatures were wide and eclectic, featuring cave-dwelling Fraggles, giant Gorgs (who harvested radishes), and Marjorie the prophetic Trash Heap.

The new version, according to Brian Henson, will not just appeal to kids.

“It’ll have a strong musical component,” he told MTV. “It’ll be expanded to an older audience. [The original] was presented… for a pretty exclusively children’s audience. The feature film does expand it to be more accessible to a wider audience.”

In addition to the return of the Fraggles, Brian plans on resurrecting another past favorite.

“We have a ‘Dark Crystal’ sequel, called ‘The Power of the Dark Crystal.’ It has a very strong script.” Brian said.

So, how long could “Fraggle Rock” and “Dark Crystal” fans have to wait for the opportunity to relive their childhoods?

“Both of those projects… are very close to going into pre-production,” Brian explained. “They’re both really ready to go. [We’re just] putting together the final finance pieces and the final distribution pieces.”
