Liam Cunningham Talks Davos Seaworth’s Game Of Thrones Return

Davos Seaworth is back!

Actor Liam Cunningham was back in the “Game of Thrones” fold last Sunday, and he admitted keeping his character’s return a secret was actually quite tough.

“It was very, very difficult to keep quiet, because as we know with this series, one of the tag lines with this is, ‘No one is safe.’ Anybody can go, at any time. And it did look like I went at the Battle of Blackwater,” in a new sit down interview, referring to how his character was propelled off his ship by the exploding wildfire in Season 2, Episode 9.

While book readers knew Davos was going to return, those behind the show wanted to keep Davos’ fate in the television production a secret until Season 3 viewers saw him stranded and blistered on a rock out at sea.

“It was very difficult to kind of keep quiet about it,” Liam continued, before thanking the fans. “Obviously, the people who read the book, know what’s going on and a huge amount of gratitude to them, they haven’t been doing spoilers and stuff.”

While Liam’s character, Davos, managed to get rescued in the season premiere, The Onion Knight quickly learned things had changed with his leader – King Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) — who, under the influence of Melisandre, the Red Priestess (Carice van Houten) has been engaging in horrendous crimes against men.

“It’s enormous,” Liam said of how the powerful news affects Davos and sets up his Season 3 arc. “He’s still grieving for his son, so when Salladhor Saan informs him that Melisandre and Stannis – and honor is such a huge part of his life – that they’re burning prisoners, and Melisandre is singing to them while they burn, Davos takes a serious affront to that because Stannis is letting down the side and basically turning into everything that we’re supposed to be fighting against.”
