Lindsay Lohan Confirms Failed Drug Test, Admits To Substance Abuse

Lindsay Lohan has confirmed she failed a court-mandated drug test, and admitted that she struggles with substance abuse. The shocking admission — made via Lohan’s Twitter account Friday night — comes a little less than a month after the actress was released from UCLA Medical Center, where she had been receiving rehab treatment following 13 days in jail for violating her DUI probation.

The troubled star took to her Twitter account just before 10 PM on Friday evening, to address the issue after news of the failed drug test broke on Friday afternoon.

“Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result,” she Tweeted.

According to TMZ, the “Machete” star tested positive for cocaine last week. As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, at Lohan’s Aug. 25 court hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox ordered serious conditions as part of her probation, including random drug and alcohol testing. Failing a drug test could land Lohan back in jail for up to 30 days.

“Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night,” she wrote. “I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future.”

Lohan went on to Tweet that she knows she made a mistake, and is aware of the potential punishment she may incur due to her behavior.

“This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences,” she wrote.

The former “Mean Girls” star concluded her stunning Twitter confession by thanking fans for their understanding and support.

“I am so thankful for the support of my fans, loved ones and immediate family, who understand that i am trying hard, but also that I am a work in progress, just as anyone else. I am keeping my faith, and I am hopeful….Thank you all!!!”

Lohan’s admission came just hours after she first shot down the failed drug test reports in comments to Us Weekly.

“I’m fine,” she told the mag, early Friday evening, adding of TMZ’s report, “They’re all nuts.”

A call to Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, by Access on Friday was not immediately returned.
