Lindsay Lohan’s Family Members Speak Up

NEW YORK, NY (July 26, 2007) — Lindsay Lohan’s sister, Ali, has spoken up about recent comments made to the media by her estranged father, Michael. Additionally, Lindsay’s uncle, Chris Sullivan, has reportedly offered his own view of the events leading up to Lindsay’s arrest on Tuesday morning.

Michael Lohan, who is currently embroiled in a messy divorce and custody battle with Lindsay’s and Ali’s mother, Dina, has made the media rounds following the news of Lindsay’s latest arrest for suspicion of DUI on Tuesday. While he maintained that he was not “criticizing” Dina in an interview with Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush on Tuesday , the ex-con turned ordained minister said that Dina is “accountable for herself and just like Lindsay, Dina needs to clean house.”

The 13 year-old Ali, who is an aspiring actress/singer, defended her mother in an email yesterday to VH1’s Sizzler correspondent, David Caplan:

“Hi david this is ali lohan, i want everybody to know the truth out there,” she wrote. “My mom is a single mom of four children she has always been there for us, she was my mother and father and still is. My father is telling all lies to people and saying he was such a great dad and was always there for us, my father was never there for us, My mom was always there souporting us. i think that the whole reason why my sister is upset with her self and not as cofident, is because of my dad not being around, and always staying out late and not coming home for days, he would come back home never himself, he was always was making excuses for his bad behavior . And would always blame my mother. He just wants everybody in the world knowing that he was a great dad. He wasnt that is all a lie.”

As for Lindsay, Ali admitted that she was going through a “rough time,” but that she will be “fine.” She stressed in her email that Dina, along with Ali and her siblings, have been there for Lindsay though the highs and lows:

“I just want my sister to stick throught this okay, and my mother and brothers and i are there for my sister 100% and have always been. I’ve wanted to say this for so long and get this out there and let everyone know that our family is like a normal family but of course we are put under a microscope because of lindsays fame, lindsay will be fine she is just going through a rough time right now but she will be fine. i know this for a fact. My sisters is just like a normal sister. her and I have so much in common. My mother and sister are huge insperations to me, they have made it through so much in there lives.

Thankyou for your time god bless, Ali”

While Ali may take issue with Michael’s parenting skills, Michael told Billy on Tuesday that he takes some responsibility for the trouble Lindsay finds herself in:

“I’m accountable for what I’ve done,” he said. “I put myself in the position of acting out in the wrong way. I wound up in jail. I was arrested. It’s unfortunate Lindsay is experiencing what I did.”

“I just want her to get it,” he added. “Just get it, honey. Please, I can’t take this anymore and neither can anyone else. I’m tired of all this. You need your parents and that’s all that’s important. Just let me reach out to you and be there for you.”

But Michael and the rest of Lindsay’s immediate family aren’t the only ones who want to be there for her. Her uncle, Chris Sullivan, reportedly told THE NY POST that Lindsay was actually trying to do a good thing when she was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Tuesday.

According to the report, Sullivan said that Lohan’s former assistant, Tarin Graham, “is a problem individual and Lindsay was trying to help her out,” adding that Graham’s “mother got involved and became hysterical.”

As previously reported, police received a 911 call early Tuesday morning from someone claiming they were being chased by another vehicle. Access learned the driver of the vehicle being “chased” was the mother of Lindsay’s assistant, Tarin Graham, who had just reportedly quit. According to police, Lindsay was the driver in the other vehicle.

But Sullivan reportedly told the NY Post that “She [Lindsay] may well have not been driving the car. This girl and her mother are letting Lindsay take the fall, but hopefully the truth will come out! That would get rid of most of the charges.”

Regardless of the events leading up to Lindsay’s arrest, there is the matter of her alleged drinking and driving. According to Santa Monica Police, Lohan was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving at approximately 1:30 AM on Tuesday. She was taken to jail where her blood-alcohol level registered a .12 (well above the legal limit which is .08). Lohan was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, as well as driving on a suspended license. She was released shortly before 6:30 AM PST on $25,000 bail.

Police also allege that a “usable amount” of cocaine was in found in Lohan’s pocket, which Lindsay denied in an email to Access’ Billy Bush:

“Yes. I am innocent did not do drugs they’re not mine…..I was almost hit by my assistant tarins mom…” she wrote.

Sullivan reportedly admitted to the Post that Lindsay may have “slipped,” but that she did not break any laws on Tuesday. He said that he had spoken with Dina about Lindsay yesterday.

“She [Dina] said Lindsay sounded good,” he is quoted as saying. “You know, people slip. Hopefully, she’ll get back on the wagon and she’ll be fine.”

Lindsay’s lawyer, Blair Berk, updated Access on Lindsay’s current status in a statement yesterday:

“Addiction is a terrible and vicious disease. Since Lindsay transitioned to outpatient care, she has been monitored on a SCRAM bracelet and tested daily in order to support her sobriety. Throughout this period, I have received timely and accurate reports from the testing companies. Unfortunately, late yesterday I was informed that Lindsay had relapsed. The bracelet has now been removed. She is safe, out of custody and presently receiving medical care.”
