Lisa Oz’s Back To School Quick, Healthy Snack Recipes (Access Hollywood Live)

As soon as your kids get home from school, they will most certainly go for that after-school snack.

But how can you make sure what they are reaching for is something nutritious?

Lisa Oz, host of “The Lisa Oz Show” on the Veria Living network, stopped by Access Hollywood Live to share some quick and healthy snack ideas to satisfy your kids’ after-school appetites.

Seasoned Nut Snacks

  • 2 cups mixed nuts – Walnuts, cashews, hazelnut, almonds (or favorite nut of choice)
  • 1 Tbs walnut oil or olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried or chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 Tbs brown sugar
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Nigella seeds
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • Salt to taste

Cook at 325 for 10 min – turn nuts and cook for another 10 min

Frozen Fruit Parfait

(Of course you can use fresh fruit, – but frozen, you can make any time without having to worry about getting fresh produce, and it feels a little like eating ice cream)

  • 2 cups 2 perecent Greek yogurt
  • 2 Tbs raw honey (optional, for more sweetness)
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup peaches

(Can use any combination of fruit you like – i.e. for tropical – frozen pineapple and mango – another favorite is walnuts and frozen bananas)

Fruit Kabob

  • Cubed pineapple
  • Cubed melon (I love Casaba and cantaloupe)
  • Banana slices
  • Sliced apple
  • Whole strawberries
  • Alternate on wooden skewer

Melt these together then drizzle over fruit:

  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate
  • 1 Tbs coconut oil
  • 1 Tbs water

Baked Sweet Potato Fries

  • 2 sweet potatoes
  • Tbs olive oil
  • Salt to taste (you can include other seasonings like, cinnamon and brown sugar, or cumin, red pepper and oregano, or rosemary)

Bake at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes

Homemade Hummus

  • 1 can of chickpeas, drained
  • 1/4 cup of tahini
  • Juice of one whole lemon
  • 2 Tbs olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 large clove of garlic – crushed

Put all ingredients in a blender and serve with cut up veggies.
