Live Blogging The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

8:12 PM – Kanye: “Let’s have a toast for the douchebags” — Really?! I love me some Kanye, but this isn’t working for me. And can we please stop with the auto-tune? For me, it’s a lackluster ending to a great show.

Gaga should have closed this show. Gaga with Cher… Performing “Gypsies Tramps & Thieves” …. Again, just sayin’….

I don’t think that I’m the only one who will end up looking back at this show and thinking, “Taylor Swift’s and Kanye West’s performances were the two most mediocre performances of the night.” Instead of looking forward, to a degree, this year’s VMAs spent too much time looking back (to last year’s Kanye/Taylor incident).

There wasn’t a “moment” from this year’s show that everyone will be talking about. There were, however, some great performances (Eminem/Rihanna, Florence & The Machine, Drake and Mary J. Blige). Plus, Chelsea Handler was outrageously hilarious and wonderful. And wow… I’m still blown away by the set design.

And scene folks…. I’m off to bed… I’ve been up since 3:30 am for the Malibu Triathlon (following a scissor sisters concert last night!) and Access Hollywood Live launches tomorrow! We’re in 13 markets nationally so check your local listings to catch us!

8:08 PM — Gaga announces the name of her new album is “Born This Way” and she sings the refrain from the title track. With CHER standing right there. As gay as it gets, and it’s about time. Equality begins in pop culture. Loves!

8:04 PM — Cher!!!! In her “If I Could Turn Back Time” outfit.

God, I can’t wait for “Burlesque” – it’s either the next “Flashdance” or the next “Showgirls.”

7:55 PM — I’m not a big Linkin Park fan, but major props to this performance. A+ for production values!

7:48 PM — There’s my gurl Robyn! It was quick, but it was good. If you don’t have the new album yet, get it, now! And go see her live… You haven’t lived until you have.

7:42 PM — This is why I love the VMAs… B.o.B. and Hayley Williams have never met before tonight. She recorded the refrain to “Airplanes” in a studio nowhere near him. Tonight, they perform together. Magic!

7:38 PM — Deadmau5 is spinning Alexis Jordan’s “Happiness” during commercial – just sayin’

7:33 PM — They…. Are… Not… In… A…. Hot…. Tub …. !!!!!!!!!!

No no no no no. This is everything that’s wrong with America (and I kinda love it!)

7:32 PM — Loving the Deadmau5 interstitials. Jason Derulo is so talented. Kinda left me wanting more. Robyn’s is next.

7:22 PM — Drake…. again…. Drool. Donna, my new BFF from The Daily Mail (sitting next to me) asked if it’s OK to scream like a teenager. I told her, “Absolutely!”

Now I’m screaming along with her.

Drake…. WIN!

7:07 PM — Taylor’s song is inaudible inside the theater. You can’t hear the words at all. Hopefully, it’s fixed for TV.

But thanks to the large screen words on the monitor I can read that she’s singing, “Who you are, is not what you did.”

Your move Kanye.

7:06 PM — Taylor time! (Swift, that is).

7:05 PM — Gaga wins again. And she changed outfits! And she gives another great speech. Can anyone stop her?!

6:55 PM — If you didn’t know who Florence and the Machine was before, you do now!

6:46 PM — Everyone still talking about Ciara’s dress. Ciara wins the night for fashion, hands down.

6:45 PM — Usher brings the house down. ‘Nuff said.

6:29 PM — The lovely British woman I’m sitting next tom Donna, points out that even though Bieber is mostly for 12 year old girls, and she and I don’t necessarily understand Bieber, “Justin Timberlake turned out well for us in the end, so there’s that.”

Then again, my best friend Sam is 33 and he is obsessed with Bieber.

6:15 PM — The first award of the night goes to Gaga. Could she sweep all of her 13 nominations tonight? She thanks the soldier, Alexander McQueen and the gays.

6:08 PM — Chelsea is killing it in her opening monologue. Although the crowd isn’t entirely sure how to react to it all.

“Don’t applause for ‘Jersey Shore’ – they’re the reason MTV doesn’t play your videos.” Pretty much, yep.

6:05 PM — Chelsea’s opening is hilarious! Lady Gaga stands up in the audience in honor of the homage to her.

6:03 PM — Rihanna!!!!! Wow wow wow! This is legendary!!! What an opening! Seriously this set is amazing – doesn’t feel like the Nokia Theatre at all!

6:00 PM — Eminem!!!!

5:59 PM — The energy in here is insane – I’ve been to 5 VMAs and this is the most amazing stage I’ve ever seen!!!

5:32 PM — That’s it for the carpet folks. Everyone’s heading in. More from inside the show!

5:31 PM — Timberlake walks the carpet with Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield, his co-stars in “The Social Network.”

5:27 PM — Jane Lynch is giving us Sue Sylvester chic! Her trenchcoat is a variation of Sue’s track suit.

5:25 PM — Katy shows Shaun that she has different decals of Russell on her fingernails.

5:20 PM — Did you think Sofia Vergara could ever look better than she did at the Emmys? She just might tonight in her metallic midnight blue mini.

5:15 PM — Katy Perry is kicking the MTV moon man.

5:11 PM — Usher and Bieber on their way – here come the ones everyone’s been waiting for. Bieber stops first for Shaun! Then Usher stops first for Shaun!

5:10 PM — Flo Rida – we all start singing “Club Can’t Handle Me” on our platform – it’s the jam.com!

5:01 PM — The “Jackass” guys – still doin’ their thing. Steve-o just licked his fingers and massaged his chest for photographers – classy!

5:00 PM — Ashley Greene looks amazing tonight.

4:55 PM — Travie McCoy is tall.

4:54 PM — Drake makes all of the women (and some of the men) around us swoon. There is drool coming out of some mouths.

4:53 PM – Emma Stone. I predict that she’s gonna be a BIG star after this coming weekend!

4:51 PM — Ciara is easily the best dressed of the night so far. Seriously, she’s stunning! And her dress is on point! Ciara… WIN!

4:50 PM — Robyn, why’d you run off so quick?

4:49 PM — Shaun SENT THE SITUATION to go get Gaga for us!!! And he almost did! Shaun cracks me up sometimes!

4:45 PM — Our Shaun Robinson is playing with Pauly D’s hair.

4:40 PM — The paparazzi all fell over themselves for Gaga. Some jump off their platform to chase her. She does no interviews. She is joined by soldiers discharged under “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” — genius.

4:36 PM — Gaga is in the house!!!! She is dressed like a peacock and has blue hair!!!

4:35 PM — Bethenny Frankel’s ruffles dress doesn’t seem right for MTV. Reality stars clearly are the dominant force at the VMAs now – seemingly more so than musicians!

4:32 PM — Ne-Yo continues the hot streak of men’s fashion. This guy knows how to dress.

4:30 PM — Here come The Situation, JWoww, Snooki and Pauly D – they clearly separated the groupings of “Jersey Shore” kids. Oh but now they’re bringing the others back around to join them. Pauly D’s hair has a life of its own. Jesse Williams from “Grey’s Anatomy” is chatting with Shaun – I’m still not over last season’s finale.

4:28 PM — It goes without saying that our own Maria Menounos looks radiant tonight, as always. Watch for her shoes – they’re legendary tonight!

4:25 PM — Dr. Drew, love your show. Hire a stylist.

4:20 PM — Akon is on his way next to us… There are a bunch of very young kids posing and I have no idea who they are (seriously, they’re like 13 years old). I think they’re in the new “Real World.” I must be getting older. Gold metallic is the fashion statement of the night so far, no doubt.

4:17 PM — Stephanie Pratt and Lo Bosworth are both stunning in gold. Jason Derulo (black leather), Pitbull (white suit) and Jay Sean (in a caftan) both make some bold fashion statements on the mens’ side. Jason’s gonna be performing a remix of his song with Deadmau5 and Swedish singer Robyn (it’s secretly the performance I’m most looking forward to tonight!).

4:00 PM — Joe Manginiello from “True Blood” steps on the carpet. Yep, even better looking in person.

3:50 PM — “Jersey Shore” cast arrives. Along with house DJ Deadmau5

3:38 PM — On the red carpet. It’s the quiet before the storm. The carpet is all white with a mid-century modern aesthetic. Me likey… A lot. Audrina Patridge just walked by. The moon man is posing. Here we go.
