‘Lost’ & Found: Island Heartache (October 26, 2006)

by Bryant Huddleston

Rather than waste my time talking about last night’s somewhat lackluster Sawyer episode (just how long are they going to drag us around with no real answers?), I’d rather focus on the disturbing news I discovered yesterday while on assignment.

If you’re not interested in a REALLY BIG SPOILER then I suggest you click on this week’s “Dish of Salt” column.

Now, in Tuesday’s edition of “Lost & Found” I mentioned I had heard that Mr. Eko’s story was going to take a surprise twist saying, ” I sure hope it’s not so big that he follows my girl Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) to meet the grim reaper.” Now comes word Eko, Ana, and dirty Libby will in fact be watching us from above after next week’s episode. I admit I feel a little irritated by the decision to once again kill off a “Tailie.” Do they not think it makes them look a little fishy to fire yet another actor who had trouble with the Hawaiian authorities? Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was arrested in September for a traffic violation. Michelle Rodriquez and Cynthia Watros were also arrested and charged with a DUI while shooting “Lost.” Watros plead guilty while Rodriguez served jail time. Both ladies, who also paid fines, eventually met their maker.

Mr. Eko was one of the few characters on the show that had an enjoyable back-story (Sawyer’s last night was disappointing). Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, much like my fave Yun Jin Kim, brings such honesty and integrity to his role. He knocks it out of the ballpark every single time. My confirmation came yesterday while on the set of “Heroes.” Of all the people to be on set that day was a writer for ‘Lost’ magazine. She wouldn’t tell me anything, but it didn’t take much to figure it out. She was disappointed with the “actor’s” dismissal too saying, “Yeah, I don’t understand why they keep doing that?” (ref:: killing off “Tailies)

So I say to “Lost” producers: ?. when can we put Charlie out of his misery?
For the love of God when can we do it?

When Locke had that sharp knife out last week I was sure hoping he was going to do it right then and there.

Why couldn’t Charlie have been leaning on Desmond’s invention last night just as the lightening struck? His character hasn’t added one thing to the show since it’s 2004 debut. If only the eerie Ethan had put a little bit more muscle behind Charlie’s beating, I wouldn’t feel so let down today. Maybe the reason he’s still annoying us is because of actor Dominic Monaghan’s relationship with Evangeline Lilly. Maybe it’s just an unspoken word on the island — leave “Freckles’” boy alone!
