Makeover Nation, Part I: Who’s Having It Done?

(November 20, 2006) — Every day in the U.S., thousands of people change the way they look. In Part 1 of our five part series, Access shows you why Hollywood is the capital of Makeover Nation.

Cosmetic surgery is a 15 billion dollar industry in which people nip, tuck, suck, implant, transplant and transform themselves into what will hopefully be a better body. Carmen Electra, Tara Reid, Melanie Griffith, Jenny McCarthy, Suzanne Somers, Meg Ryan and Hollywood’s other re-do role models have led the charge.

From Dolly Parton to Jennifer Gray and Pamela Anderson, much of Hollywood proudly parades their new, improved selves. Some stars though, like Tori Spelling, leave us guessing. “I never comment yes or no on it ever when it’s kind of one of those things that I am not going to even address,” she told our cameras.

Rumored to have gotten breast implants, Tori Spelling joins a list including Victoria Beckham, Janet Jackson, Demi Moore, Ashlee Simpson and Nicolette Sheriden who simple won’t answer the ‘Have they?’ or ‘Haven’t they?’ cosmetic surgery question.
But the proof may be in the picture.

Board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Jason B. Diamond says that judging by these before-and-after shots from February 2006 and June 2006 of Ashlee Simpson (see above), it’s quite obvious that a rhinoplasty was performed. And he approves of the results. “Creating more of a balance and more of a harmony to the face gives an overall improvement,” Dr. Diamond told Access.

So how about Britney’s buxom return to the spotlight as a single woman? When she hit the streets a few weeks ago, in this very revealing dress, immediately rumors of implants imploded. “Her chest is larger here in this picture, but she did just have a baby,” Dr. Diamond said. “It’s hard to say whether that’s a natural enlargement or whether that’s a breast augmentation.”

Dr. Diamond opines that Meg Ryan may have gone under the knife based on these two photographs of the ‘You’ve Got Mail’ star taken over a decade a part. “It’s definitely safe to say she’s had her brows rejuvenated, she’s definitely had lip augmentation and she’s probably had some sort of mini facelift,” he said.

The ability to flash a fantastic smile is also high on the list for many celebs. “Teeth are overrated,” said Pamela Anderson. “Get them outta here. Put them in a jar.”

Pam has a point. Regular old teeth rarely exist in Hollywood anymore. According to cosmetic dentist, Dr. Nancy Rosen, celebs often use veneers, which are strips of porcelain attached to the tooth, to brighten their smile. The results are similar to what she thinks changed Hilary Duff’s smile over the last several years.

Others like Ben Affleck and Nicolas Cage are rumored to have engaged in dentistry sessions too. “Nicolas Cage definitely had bleaching, veneers, and or crowns done because he doesn’t have those spaces anymore,” Rosen said.

“Ben Affleck definitely had some bleaching and maybe a little enamel contouring to give him a more mature sophisticated look,” she added.
