Makeup Mondays: How To Get The Metallic Eye (Glam Slam)

The holidays scream for festive makeup to go along with our party looks and nothing is more glam than “The Metallic Eye.”

“Metallic eyes are a trend that anyone can wear,” says celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose. “Just because it’s metallic, doesn’t mean you have to go all out. Keep the application simple with just a swipe on upper eyelids or brow bones, or add a small dose of metallic with liquid eyeliner for an instant, chic look.”

Nick, whose celebrity clients include Lupita Nyong’o, Lucy Hale, Kate Mara and Chloe Grace Moretz, reveals that “the key to wearing a metallic eye elegantly is to make sure the products you are using look shiny and not sparkly. You don’t want to see big chunks of glitter, it should look sexy and sophisticated and not too junior. To balance out the drama in the eyes, make sure to opt for a simple nude lip.”

Here Nick shares his how-to tips, so you too can achieve The Metallic Eye Look:

“Start by applying metallic powder eye shadow to upper eyelids. For more drama add extra shadow to brow bones and inner corners of eye with Dior 5 Eye Shadows Palette in Smoky Design.

Line upper lash lines with a metallic dark pewter eyeliner like Jouer Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Panther. Start from inner corner and wing out at the tails. Applying liner thicker and longer will add drama.

To make the metallic color pop even more, add depth to brows with Maybelline Master Shape Brow. When brows look darker it helps frame the silver eyes more, giving a slight 60’s feel: think
The Supremes-Diana Ross Glam…perfect for a sexy night out for upcoming holidays.

Finish eyes by adding black mascara. Applying extra swipes to outer corners. Try Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Long Lush Mascara.

To keep the look from becoming too retro, opt for sheer nude lip colors, like Jouer Lip Sheer SPF15 in St. Tropez.

Skip blush, as it can be too much with the dramatic eyes, and just add a hint of highlight to cheekbones with Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks.”
