Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s Surprising Post-Elimination Suggestion: Keep Watching ‘Dancing’

From a man shooting his television in Wisconsin to the record-breaking numbers in the Access Hollywood Nation poll, Bristol Palin’s advancement to the finals on “Dancing with the Stars’” Season 11 has created a big stir across the nation.

For those disappointed by the elimination of sometime-frontrunners Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, the perpetual ballroom bad boy has some unexpected advice (well, except for that guy who shot his TV) – keep watching the show.

“I think it’s my job right now, my duty, to make sure that people don’t really turn off [the TV] because there was a lot of negativity and a lot of negative emotion,” Maks told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Friday’s Access Hollywood Live. “We got a lot of love and support from our fans, but I need to stay true to what I want, and I want ‘Dancing’ on TV.

“I don’t want [there] to be any kind of scrutiny about the show, so please watch the finale, love the finalists, applaud whoever your favorite is,” Maks continued. “We’re good, we’re fine. Brandy’s OK, I’m OK. The world is not come crashing down because we got eliminated, so just enjoy the dancing.”

Maks said that if he were to pinpoint anything that hurt them this season, it was the packages shown about Brandy on “DWTS.”

“I feel like Brandy and [me] — this season was an uphill climb from Day 1,” Maks said. “There was a lot of stuff, from her past that was, you know, unpleasant, was misunderstood and misinterpreted and if I’m gonna wish some things had been done different, it’s probably our packages — that they would’ve shown more Brandy the way I know her.”

Despite what happened, Maks is thankful that the pair got to the semi-final round.

“Unfortunately they were packaged to just, you know, kind of create some drama… maybe show some tears… but we did still get a lot of fans and a lot of support,” he said.

Brandy told Access at Us Weekly’s Hot Hollywood party on Thursday night, she appreciated the support following their elimination.

“I’m very overwhelmed with all the love I’ve been getting It just feels so amazing to have a huge support system behind me,” she said. “And you know, I can just say that I really gave it my all.”
