Malcolm-Jamal Warner On ‘Reed Between The Lines’ & Its Similarities To ‘The Cosby Show’

Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross have teamed up to play a happily married couple on BET’s new comedy, “Reed Between the Lines,” and the two admitted they don’t mind the early comparisons to “The Cosby Show.”

“How could we not aspire to that?” former “Girlfriends” star Tracee told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Friday’s Access Hollywood Live, when they suggested The Reeds have a romance like The Huxtables.

“It’s fun to be able play a happily married couple. There’s no drama, but there’s obviously family stuff and obstacles,” Malcolm-Jamal said of his and Tracee’s new characters – Alex and Carla Reed.

“But it’s nice to be able to play a couple who really dig each other. I think that’s sort of the Cliff and Claire of it,” he continued. “You knew that Cliff really dug his wife, and she loved him, so it’s kind of reminiscent of that of that.”

Tracee said she and Malcolm-Jamal have had excellent chemistry playing the two characters.

“It’s been magical. We sort of backed into this divine partnership,” she told Billy and Kit.

“Reed Between the Lines” premieres October 11 at 10/9 C on BET.
