Marc Guggenheim On Diggle’s Wedding, The Arrow & The Atom Coming Face To Face

Wedding bells will ring this Wednesday on “Arrow” when Diggle and Lyla tie the knot.

“It’s so much fun. It feels like a different show,” Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim told Access Hollywood of the start of the episode. “It begins with the wedding and you’re like, ‘Am I watching ‘Arrow’? But it’s really sweet and really nice.”

Laurel, Thea and Felicity are among the guests at Diggle and Lyla’s nuptials, and Guggenheim revealed who is walking home with the wedding flowers.

“We find out that Felicity caught the bouquet, which was something that I was dying to get in there, and it’s lots of fun,” he said. “[There’s] a couple of little surprises along the way. Laurel will have an addition to her wedding ensemble that is a little unexpected. There’s a snafu that will give a little surprise to the nuptials, but it’s so much fun.”

David Ramsey, who plays the groom, Diggle, said his character’s big day will be cut short, because… it’s “Arrow.”

“Any time someone’s happy on ‘Arrow,’ it won’t last long, so it was a fantastic wedding. Diggle was happy for about 5.8 seconds,” he said.

The interruption will have something to do with A.R.G.U.S. and the Suicide Squad, who are getting a new member this episode – Cupid, The Arrow’s superfan, who Oliver sent to A.R.G.U.S. to rehabilitate.

But there’s another big event to look forward to in the episode when The Arrow finally comes face to face with The Atom (Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer).

“I don’t see them liking each other too much, particularly when Oliver’s gonna find out that Ray and Felicity slept together, so there’s more going on here than just The Atom vs. The Arrow. I mean, as they always say, this time it’s personal, “Guggenheim said.

So that confirms it – there will be some kind of match-up.

“Sparks are gonna fly,” Guggeheim told Access, adding that the visual effects look like they are “straight out of a movie.”

“It is awesome,” he said.

Executive Producer Greg Berlanti called the matchup, “a cool showdown.”

“We’re spending a lot time/money on it, so it’ll be worth the wait and the watch, I think,” he said.
