Maria Menounos On Her Love Of Dogs & Who Would Play Them In A Movie

Canine lover Maria Menounos is gracing the cover of the latest Modern Dog magazine.

Access Hollywood’s own Maria posed for the Fall 2009 issue shoot with her four beloved dogs – Baby, Benjamin, Athena and Apollo.

“I really try to encourage people to rescue rather than purchase dogs,” Maria told the mag of canine adoption (all of her pups are rescues). “When I first came to LA, I didn’t know there was this overpopulation problem, but I started volunteering at the Humane Society, got a posse of dogs, and have been spreading the word ever since. Dogs bring us so much joy every single day. They deserve to be treated well.”

Maria told the mag she hopes more people will adopt dogs, especially because so many need homes.

“Right now, with the economy, there are so many beautiful dogs being turned in [to shelters] because families are struggling,” Maria noted.

When asked which Hollywood stars would play her dogs if there were to be a movie about them, Maria said that her “brave and courageous” Apollo could be played by Gerard Butler; “loyal” Benjamin could be played by Seth Rogen; Maria herself would play “independent tomboy” Baby and Charlize Theron could play the “soulful and delicate” Athena.
