Mariah Carey Becomes Global Hunger Ambassador

Mariah Carey is lending her voice to help out those in need.

The singer has signed on as the Global Hunger Ambassador for the Yum! Foundation’s World Hunger Relief campaign and she’ll be using her music to help out the cause.

Beginning tomorrow, Thursday September 25, Mariah is encouraging people around the world to pick up a coded card at any of Yum’s 36,000 restaurants, which include KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s and A&W. The card will allow fans to download her song, “Love Story,” off her latest album, “E=MC2,” at www.FromHungerToHope.com.

For every download, Yum will donate $.25 to the Hunger Relief campaign, which helps raise money for the United Nation’s World Food Program.

In related Mimi news, according to the NY Daily News, Mariah is heading back to the movies. She is developing a big screen musical based on her holiday album, “Merry Christmas.”

“Since I recorded the Christmas album, I’ve always wanted to make a movie to go with it, something that people could watch and hear and enjoy every year,” Mariah told the NY Daily News. “I’m into it. I’m all about the holiday season.”

The plot centers around a developer who wants to turn a small town into a shopping center.

“Mariah doesn’t want to let that happen,” her producing partner Benny Medina told the paper. “Her character uses song and love to keep the Christmas spirit alive.”

“High School Musical” writer Peter Barsocchini is reportedly penning the script.
