Mariah Carey Discusses Video Shoot Injuries, Her New Single

Mariah Carey is still suffering from injuries she sustained while filming a music video back in July.

“It was more than my arm. People didn’t know and I didn’t want to make a big huge deal about it so I was just like, ‘OK, let’s just move on,” Mariah told Access Hollywood on Wednesday. “But, I dislocated my shoulder, fractured a bit of my shoulder, fractured ribs and [there was] nerve damage.”

Mariah said she is on the mend, but not quite fully healed just yet.

“We’re sort of… near the end but it’s still going to take a little bit longer to be 100 percent,” she said.

She had been filming a video for a remix version of her song “#Beautiful,” which was being directed by her husband, Nick Cannon, when the injury happened.

“It was something I’ve never experienced and do not want to ever experience again or wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy,” she said of the injury.

“Well maybe my worst, but… kidding,” she added, with a laugh.

The superstar is currently promoting her new single, “The Art of Letting Go,” and she addressed why it was so emotional for her.

“’The Art of Letting Go’ is a song that I really want my fans to discover for themselves, and people who are not my fans. I think it’s a very emotional song,” she told Access.

“This is something that is a real song that came from my heart,” she added. “I wrote and produced it with Rodney Jerkins, who I love. … And so it’s been a great experience and it’s exciting because I think people are going to feel a specific type of — a specific way.”

Beyond the single, Mariah discussed her new album too.

“This album is going to be a brand new representation of me as an artist, so that’s why I think… having ‘The Art of Letting Go’ [be] heard by my fans for the first time, was the absolute, you know there’s nothing better for me,” she said. “As I’ve always said, from the beginning of my career, ever since I knew I had fans, that they are the ones who’ve kept me here. They’re the ones who mean the most to me. They are the reason I have been able to have longevity and do what I love for a living.”
