Marisa Tomei Joins ‘Empire’ Season 2

Watch your back, Cookie! A new “Empire” queen might be eyeing the throne.

Marisa Tomei is set to join the smash Fox drama next season in a recurring role, the show’s writers announced via Twitter on Thursday.

According to Deadline, the “My Cousin Vinny” star will play billionaire venture capitalist Mimi Whiteman, whose love for “hip-hop, social trends, high-end fashion and beautiful women” sound like an ideal fit for the music industry soap.

The Oscar winner will be in good company. “Empire” already has an impressive lineup of Season 2 guest stars on deck, including Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and “Magic Mike” co-star Adam Rodriguez, but the show is no stranger to household names. Jennifer Hudson, Courtney Love, Naomi Campbell, Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg, among others, all made appearances on the breakthrough first season that drew record ratings.

As for Marisa, her “Empire” arc welcomes the actress’ first TV spot since a 2006 stint on “Rescue Me,” but she has another meaty small screen role lined up as well. She’s currently developing a Gloria Steinem miniseries for HBO, on which she’ll also star as the feminist icon.
