Martin Scorsese is teaming up with Mick Jagger to make a new drama series for HBO, Deadline reported.
The project, currently in the pilot stage, originally started out as a film idea by the Rolling Stones’ frontman, according to the website. Scorsese was originally going to direct the planned movie with “The Departed” writer William Monahan to pen the script.
Now, as a television drama, which is reportedly going under the name “History of Music” for now, it will be penned by Scorsese’s “Boardwalk Empire” writer Terence Winter
The show will follow the stories of two friends across four decades in the music world.
Things are set to begin in the years when R&B first started to make an impact – the genre that helped spark the imaginations of a young Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
A rep for HBO was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access Hollywood.
Over the years, Scorsese has made no secret of his passion for the Rolling Stones, having directed 2008’s “Shine a Light,” the rock documentary/concert film on the band.
First up for Scorsese on HBO, however, is “Boardwalk Empire,” about life during the Prohibition Era in Atlantic City, which stars Steve Buscemi. That project begins airing on HBO on September 19.
