Matt Damon Takes On Triathlon In Miami

In the Hollywood community, triathlons are officially in.

Matt Damon became the latest celebrity to jump on the competition bandwagon, following a lead set by stars including Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Lopez and Felicity Huffman, who took on a triathlon in Malibu, Calif., last month.

’‘My brother talked me into it,’’ the “Bourne” franchise star told the Miami Herald about his part in The Escape to Miami triathlon, held in the Florida city on Sunday.

The newly trim star, who appeared to have shed much of the weight he gained to film “The Informant,” took on just a portion of the three-tiered event. The land-loving Matt reportedly joined a running relay team, which included his stepfather Jay Jones and Barry Hetherington, a family friend, according to the paper.

The star, who ran 6.2 miles as part of his relay portion, was welcomed across the finish line by his wife, Lucianna, and his newborn, Gia. He ran the distance in 59 minutes and 54 seconds, the Herald reported.

One reason Matt’s brother, Kyle Damon, who is reportedly training for one of the biggest triathlon’s in the world, the Ironman, suggested Matt engage in the competition was to help him shed some of the pounds he put on for “The Informant.”

“I was doing this movie this [past] summer where I had to put on all this weight and my brother told me, ‘October 5, save the date,’ ‘’ Matt told the paper. ‘‘I’ve got to get in shape for the next thing I’m doing.”

But it appears Matt, a boxing training enthusiast, will not become a triathlon regular.

“I don’t think so,” he said when asked if he would switch his gloves for running shoes. “I knew I was in trouble when the old guy with the oxygen tank passed me.’’
