Mayim Bialik’s Unconventional Parenting: Family Bed & No TV

Former “Blossom” star Mayim Bialik is all grown up, married and a mother of two – and she’s embracing some forms of parenting that some people might find unusual.

The actress told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover that she, her husband and her two sons — ages 5 and 2 — sleep in a family bed.

“There’s a tremendous amount of benefits, besides knowing where your kids are and where they are all night,” she said on Wednesday’s Access Hollywood Live, explaining that they have two mattresses next to each other in their one-bedroom home. “There’s a lot of intimacy that I think is healthy and in most cultures in the world, that is the way people sleep, is close to their kids.

“You know how they’re doing and you know what they need at night. Also because I’m nursing, it facilitates nursing,” she added, noting she still nurses her youngest son.

“My little one is 2, we’re extended nursers, and my older one is 5, he’s not nursing anymore,” Mayim told Billy and Kit. ” I will go until he weans. We set a lot of healthy boundaries.”

“Now what happens if you and your husband want to [be intimate?]” Billy asked.

“I guess it will have to happen not in the bed when our children are there,” she smiled.

The actress, who is currently starring on CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” also revealed that her kids won’t be seeing any of her small screen work.

“We have a no-media household for our kids,” she added. “They’ve seen sports on TV, they watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. We do a lot of other things with our time… that’s just how we do it, it’s different.”
