Megalyn E.K. Talks Taking Vixen To ‘Arrow’

Megalyn E.K. voiced Vixen in The CW Seed animated series of
the same name, but on Wednesday night, she’s playing the character again – this
time, on “Arrow.”

On the Seed series, Vixen, aka Mari McCabe, knows both the Green
Arrow and The Flash. She heads to Star City in “Arrow’s” newest
episode in order to help pal Oliver Queen, whose son, William, was kidnapped by
Season 4 villain Damien Darhk. And learning about the relationship between
Oliver and William (since, to many on the show, Oliver having a son is a
secret) will give Vixen even more of a reason to help out.

“It
makes me want to help even more honestly, because Vixen doesn’t know her real
parents, so the opportunity to help save his son — part of her purpose is to
help with things like this, especially something like that,” Megalyn
told Access Hollywood.

When Vixen comes
face-to-face with Damien, she will try to take him down.

“We meet in
the episode,” Megalyn told Access of encountering the one-time rival to Season 3’s Ra’s al Ghul. “She tries to destroy him.”

And from the
moment she sets foot in Star City (Vixen is from Detroit on the Seed series),
she will be focused on getting the job done, leaving little time for fun downtime (dinner, or a coffee break) with the other characters.

“In this
episode, there’s not a ton of time for that because… there is an urgency to the
task at hand, so we all just kind of come together and join forces and try to
whoop Damien Dahrk’s a** basically,” Megalyn said, noting her character
does, however, “definitely interact with everyone on the cast.”

Vixen is a force
to be reckoned with and she will have plenty of fight scenes in Wednesday’s episode.

“The action
sequences are super cool. I got to do a lot of them, but I also have an amazing
stunt woman, who — it was uncanny how much she looks like me on camera, and
she’s very strong, so anything that she’s doing, I feel like she’ll make me
look way cooler,” Megalyn said. “I was very pleased with how all of
that ended up. I definitely do some serious a**kicking, so it’s exciting.”

To bring her character to life on the live action television series “Arrow,” Megalyn had to head up to the show’s set in advance of shooting the episode for something all of the actors in the “Arrowverse” seem to love – getting a superhero costume.

“[It was] very exciting. The costume is super important, and especially since ‘Arrow’ has this established aesthetic, it was really important to get the costume right, so I actually had to fly into Vancouver for a fitting, just for a fitting, one day,” she said. “I flew in in the morning, got fitted, got measured and flew back at night and I was absolutely happy to do that because I understand a lot goes into making these costumes. They do such a great job.

“My costume is very cool and then, when I actually got into the final thing I mean… I was such a dork. I was so giddy. I think I was doing kicks and punches and I was dancing and they were like, ‘Calm down,'” Megalyn laughed.

“Arrow” continues Wednesday at 8/7c on The CW.
