Mel Gibson On Parenthood, Tiger Woods & His Return To Acting

Mel Gibson has traded in his acting gig for a director’s chair for the last few years, but the star told Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos at the premiere of “Edge of Darkness” on Monday night that it felt good to be back.

“It felt like time to hop back in the saddle,” he said.” “Hopefully I came back with a few other tricks. Maybe not tricks, but hopefully I got better from sitting around growing fungus.”

“Edge of Darkness” isn’t the actor’s only new project – he and girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva have a three-month old daughter, Lucia.

“She looks like her mother, and that’s fortunate for the child,” Mel joked.

Earlier this month, Mel told Access Hollywood‘s Shaun Robinson he quit smoking, and on Monday, he told Maria he’s managed to successfully stay on the non-smoking track.

“I haven’t bitten you yet, so [it’s going] very well,” he said.

Mel’s recent history hasn’t been entirely without turmoil, however, and Maria asked if he could relate to the tabloid frenzy over Tiger Woods.

“Of course, one has empathy for anyone in the public eye,” Mel said. “Advice? Chin up, dude, you’re just another slugger like the rest of us.”
