Melanie Griffith says she’s put her addiction battles behind her.
“I’ve battled with it my whole life,” she told Access Hollywood at the premiere of “Shrek Forever After” at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Wednesday, in which husband Antonio Banderas reprises his animated role as Puss in Boots. “It’s a beautiful thing to finally be free.”
The star entered rehab for a third time last August, having previously gone in 2000 and 1988, and opened up to Spain’s Hola! magazine in an interview earlier this week.
“I don’t drink. I don’t take pills. Nothing,” she told the mag. “Addiction’s a tough enemy to defeat. I think of it as a monster. If I feed it, it will always want more and more, so now I’m letting it starve to death in a corner. But it’s always there.”
Melanie added that Antonio, her husband of 13 years, has stood by her throughout her struggles.
“We love each other, and above all we love our family. We’ve figured out how to get past obstacles … and if you get past those, you only get stronger,” she told the mag.
