Melissa Etheridge Reveals Connection To ‘Idol’s’ Crystal Bowersox

Melissa Etheridge is a fan of “American Idol” frontrunner Crystal Bowersox.

“She’s really sweet,” the singer said on “The View” on Friday. “I like her. She’s real.”

Melissa revealed she met the singer earlier this week, as well as the rest of the “Idol” contenders backstage at the show while she was on the CBS lot, but Crystal revealed the two had a previous connection. The acoustic guitar Crystal has been using on the show was once signed by Melissa.

“I said, ‘Nice to meet you,’ she goes, ‘I met you two years ago.’” Melissa recounted. “She came backstage to a show I did in Chicago. My drummer knew somebody that knew somebody that knew her. She got backstage and I signed her guitar and that’s the guitar that she uses. That’s my signature.”

Melissa, who has been promoting her new album, “Fearless Love,” told “The View” ladies that her children actually spotted their mom’s penmanship earlier in the “Idol” season on Crystal’s axe.

“My kids recognized that. The first time that she auditioned on ‘Idol,’ they stopped the TiVo… and they said, ‘Mom, is that your signature?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ They said, ‘Can we meet her?’ I said ‘I don’t know.’” Melissa laughed.
