Melissa Etheridge’s Oscar ‘Wake Up’ Call

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (February 6, 2007) — When Melissa Etheridge was lying there during her chemotherapy treatments, she really didn’t think an Oscar nomination was in her future.

Etheridge is up for best original song, for “I Need To Wake Up” from “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Etheridge says she remembers lying in bed during her treatments for breast cancer thinking, “Gosh, what’s next?” She says her “steps have really been on a golden path.”

She says if she can stay out of her own way, she’s really going to enjoy the second half of her life. Her competition for the best song Oscar are three songs from “Dreamgirls” and a song from “Cars.”

The Oscars will be given out on February 25.
