Young Magneto wasn’t so sure about starring with older Magneto in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
Michael Fassbender, who plays the young Erik Lensherr / Magneto opposite Ian McKellen’s older version of the mutant, spoke to Access Hollywood of the difficulty blending the old and new worlds of the X-Men.
“It’s definitely an original piece. What I was really happy and surprised with is how clearly and how well both timeframes interweave,” he told Access.

The 37-year-old revealed that he approached the time-traveling project, which includes a slew of well-known mutant characters, with some trepidation.
“That was something that worried me when I had the script before. There are so many characters, whether there would be aclarity and a through line of each of their journeys,” he explained.
Adding, “[Director] Bryan [Singer] has done a great job… Bryan has realized it excellently.”

James McAvoy, who plays a young Charles Xavier, told Access that the cast veterans were very open to the new guys on set.
“They were so welcoming and supportive, even though I had done ‘First Class’ and made that part my own, at least in my own mind,” he said. “It was still kind of weird coming after they’d been together for a month and doing my character [with Patrick Stewart]… they were really cool.”
“X-Men: Days of Future Past” hits theaters on May 23.
