Michael Vick Cancels Planned Appearance On ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’

NFL star Michael Vick has canceled his scheduled appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Access Hollywood has confirmed.

“Michael Vick was scheduled to be a guest on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ for an episode airing next Thursday, February 24,” a rep for Harpo Productions told Access on Wednesday. “Mr. Vick’s representatives called last night to cancel his appearance for personal reasons.”

CNN host Piers Morgan wasted no time trying to snatch up an interview with the Philadelphia Eagle’s quarterback, Tweeting, “Dear @MikeVick sorry to hear about you cancelling @Oprah,” on Thursday. “I’m here if you need me. Kind regards Piers.”

In the premiere episode of his new show, “Piers Morgan Tonight,” Piers made a 200 British pound bet with Oprah that he would book the first Vick interview over her. On Monday, Piers Tweeted that Oprah had reneged on their bet.

“Congrats to @Oprah on beating me to i/v with @MikeVick,” Piers Tweeted. “But she can only do it if she sends me £200 for forfeiting our bet #payupmswinfrey.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Vick’s scheduled Oprah appearance was announced on Tuesday and officials with Oprah’s Chicago-based company said the interview would cover Vick’s time in prison, his work with the Humane Society and his successful return to the NFL, according to the Associated Press.

Vick served 18 months in prison over a dog fighting operation based on his property in Virginia. In 2007, several dogs were seized from his property.

He was reinstated to the NFL for the 2009 season and since then has been doing public-service work, including with the Humane Society.
