Michelle Williams Issues Heartfelt Statement On Heath Ledger’s Death

Actress Michelle Williams has issued a heartfelt statement on the death of Heath Ledger.

Williams, the mother of Heath Ledger’s 2-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose, issued a statement through her rep earlier today.

“Please respect our need to grieve privately,” Williams said in the statement. “My heart is broken. I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father.

“All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day,” Williams continued. “His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up in the best memories of him.”

Williams and Ledger found romance in 2005 on the “Brokeback Mountain” set, where they were paired as fictional husband and wife. The two split in the fall of last year.

Ledger died at his Manhattan apartment on January 22, 2008. He was 28.

Results of the actor’s autopsy are still pending.

Ledger is expected to be buried in the coming days in his native Perth, Australia.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Williams is expected to attend Ledger’s funeral, as is supermodel Helena Christensen.
