My Momma Throws Down: Cook-Off Recipes (Access Hollywood Live)

There’s nothing like a home-cooked meal from mom!

Now, moms everywhere are getting a shot to show off their culinary skills on TV One’s “My Momma Throws Down.” Moms compete against the clock to put their personal spin on a classic dish.

Two of the show’s winning moms stopped by Access Hollywood Live to stage a cooking face-off with Billy Bush & Kit Hoover. Momma Avarita Hanson teamed up with Billy and Momma Liza Hanson paired off with Kit. Each team made their version of a pasta salad. Here are the recipes:

Momma Avarita & Billy’s Crab Pasta Salad:

Ingredients:

1 16oz. box Bowtie pasta (or other pasta)

1 16 oz. bottle of Zesty Italian salad dressing

1 30 oz. bottle of Lite Miracle Whip

4 green onions (scallions) chopped

1 large cucumber (washed, unpeeled, seeded and chopped)

1 red, 1 yellow, 1 orange bell pepper (washed, seeded and chopped)

1 large package Imitation crab meat (shredded)

1 tsp. (or to taste) Old Bay Seasoning

1 lemon (juiced)

Freshly ground pepper

Cook pasta al dente according to package instructions. In a large bowl, add 1.5 cups Italian dressing, 1.5 cups Lite Miracle Whip and the juice of one lemon. Whip together. Prepare and chop all the vegetables. Add to the dressing mix. Fold in pasta and imitation crab meat. Add Old Bay seasoning and pepper. Place in the refrigerator for 4 hours or overnight.

Momma Liza & Kit’s Summertime Shrimp & Orzo Salad:

Ingredients:

1 box (1/2 lb) Barilla Orzo pasta

20 large raw shrimp (peeled & deveined)

Fresh saffron threads (about 2 pinches)

2 med/large zucchini

1 jar of roasted red bell pepper

Extra virgin olive oil

3 large lemons or 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

3/4 pound of firm Greek Feta cheese

2 stalks scallions

Grape tomatoes

Bunch of fresh basil

2 garlic cloves

Salt & pepper

Vinaigrette (mix below ingredients):

1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil

1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. pepper

Cook the Orzo pasta for about 7 -9 minutes until tender. Drizzle olive oil, salt & pepper on zucchini and grill on all sides until tender but not soft. Cut into bite sized pieces. Cut the roasted bell peppers into bite sized pieces. Finely dice the scallions. Cut the grape tomatoes (20) into halves. Cut the basil in thin threads.

Mince the garlic. Saute the shrimp, 2 pinches of saffron, garlic and 3 tbs. of olive oil in pan until tender. Mix all ingredients together. Toss with vinaigrette.
