Nearly Edward In ‘Twilight,’ Shiloh Fernandez Moves On With Amanda Seyfried In ‘Red Riding Hood’

Amanda Seyfried isn’t too upset that Shiloh Fernandez missed out on becoming Edward in “The Twilight Saga,” especially as it meant she got him as her love interest in “Red Riding Hood.”

“I’m kind of glad he didn’t get it, because then he wouldn’t have done this movie,” Amanda told Access Hollywood of her hot 26-year-old co-star, who plays her love interest in the Catherine Hardwicke-directed and Leonardo DiCaprio-produced film – poverty stricken wood cutter, Peter.

“I knew when he came in, I knew he was Peter, for me. I had to fight really hard for him. Catherine and I fought for him and then Leo backed us up,” she said.

Shiloh, with his brown mop and pale skin, bares a striking resemblance to the eventual portrayer of Edward Cullen – Brit Robert Pattinson – but he admitted he wasn’t exactly sure just how far he got in the casting process.

“When you audition for a part and you’re kind of getting call backs and then it doesn’t happen, you don’t necessarily know, ‘Oh, was I that close?’ The fact of the matter is I didn’t get [it],” he said.

Shiloh, who had a bit part in “Gossip Girl” in 2009 as Owen Campos, and was in CBS’ short-lived medical drama “Three Rivers,” said he had far more auditions for “Red Riding Hood” than “Twilight.”

“It wasn’t as rigorous as this process. This process, I probably had like, at least six or seven auditions for this movie,” he told Access, noting that for “Twilight” he had between three and four.

The California native thinks the man that won out, R-Pattz, was the right choice in the end.

“He’s done such a great job with that part and I couldn’t have done it any better. I would’ve [done] far, far worse, and luckily, I had the opportunity to work with Catherine down the road and this character just suits me,” he said of Peter. “This was just the right thing for me.”

Director Catherine, who helmed the first “Twilight” film, confirmed that Shiloh was among the final four actors up for Edward, but casting came down to on-screen chemistry with Kristen Stewart, who plays heroine Bella.

“I brought the four guys that I thought were the best and she had to make out with them or do a scene, do like four different scenes with them and then at the end of those two days, she said, ‘It’s gotta be Rob,’” Catherine recounted.

While K-Stew had the chemistry with R-Pattz, it was Shiloh who sparked up the screen with Amanda in “Red Riding Hood.”

“Shiloh himself, he’s very, I guess, very sexy,” Catherine said. “He knows how to kiss, he knows how to pick up a girl and throw her up against a wall. He did not need much direction.”

“Red Riding Hood” opens this Friday.
