Neil Patrick Harris Out For Oscars, Reportedly In For ‘Smurfs’?

Contrary to an online report Tuesday by Deadline.com, Neil Patrick Harris won’t be singing the opening number on film’s golden night – but according to his rep, he is going blue in a big screen “Smurfs” adaptation.

The “How I Met Your Mother” star put Oscar opening performance rumors to rest on Tuesday via Twitter.

“I will not be performing a duet with Martin Short to open the Oscars,” Neil Tweeted. “Misinformation, I’m afraid.”

But added that he might still yet surprise the audience at The Kodak Theatre, writing, “Should I maybe pull a Kanye, mid-show?”

And although NPH might not be singing come Sunday, he reportedly could be soon humming, “La la la-la la la.”

According to rep, Neil has been cast as the lead live action character in “Smurfs: The Movie,” an adaptation of the popular 80’s cartoon series about small blue creatures who lived in the forest and contended with the meddlesome Gargamel and his cat Azrael

Filming of the Raja Gosnell-directed movie, which will mix animation with live action (a la “Alvin and the Chipmunks), will start in April.
