New Girl Stars Talk The Return of Damon Wayans Jr.

Damon Wayans Jr. is heading back to “New Girl” and the cast is revealing details about the actor’s return.

“I’m really excited,” Lamorne Morris, who plays Winston on the Fox comedy, told Access Hollywood at the network’s post-TCA bash at Soho House in West Hollywood last Thursday of Damon’s return to the show.

Damon first appeared in the “New Girl” pilot as one of the original roommates, Coach, before his commitments to ABC’s “Happy Endings” pulled him out of the show. He was replaced by a new tenant – Lamorne’s Winston.

Reports have suggested that Coach will fit into Winston’s storyline, so we asked Lamorne what to expect. Although they haven’t shot Damon’s episodes yet (he is expected to be featured in four to six episodes later this season, according to Lamorne), the “New Girl” star did have a few details.

“I think we’re gonna dive into some of Coach’s backstory, maybe, to see why he left the loft, to see why we know each other,” Lamorne told Access. “I think it’ll be great.”

Jake Johnson, who plays Nick in the show, actually has spent time on screen with Damon since his departure, recently filming the 2014-due film, “Let’s Be Cops.”

“[We] had a real blast doing [the film] and I can’t wait for him to come back to the loft,” Jake said. “I think he’s gonna add a lot to the show and I’m excited to see how Coach and Winston mix it up and Coach and Cece, and everybody, just to see what happens.”

“New Girl” returns for its third season on Tuesday, September 17 at 9 PM.
