New Girl’s Zooey Deschanel & Max Greenfield Talk Emmy Nominations

“New Girl” scored five Emmy nominations on Thursday, including two for its stars, Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield, who both chatted with Access Hollywood about the honor.

Zooey called in to Access Hollywood Live, where she told Kit Hoover and guest co-host Donnie Deutsch that the good news woke her up.

“I was asleep, I didn’t want to assume anything, [but] I had my ringer on my phone, just in case,” the star, who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, said. “I’m very excited to get to work with such amazing people… I’m just so lucky to get to work with them every day.”

This includes co-star Max, who scored a nod in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category.

“I remember the day that Max came in [to audition]… and just blew me away with [his] talent, I’m so excited to see Max being recognized for his talent today,” she said.

Access also caught up with Max in New York on Thursday, where he is busy shooting the upcoming movie, “They Came Together,” with fellow Emmy nominee Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd.

”[It was] a barrage of screaming and yelling and crying, and then I thought, ‘This might be real,’” he said of his reaction to the good news.

Max is up against four “Modern Family” stars — Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, something he believes fellow category nominee and “Saturday Night Live” star Bill Hader and he should join forces over.

“I’ll try and contact [Bill] tonight to figure out what we’re going to do to stop these ‘Modern Family’ people, they seem to win everything!” he joked, adding, “They’re all amazing… I’m thrilled to just be in the company of those people.”

As for Emmy red carpet attire, Zooey said she and Max might have a headline-making look in the works.

“Max Greenfield and I talked about matching outfits,” she said with a laugh.

The 64th annual Primetime Emmys will air Sunday, September 23 on ABC.
