Next ‘Star Trek’ Series To Film Scenes In Dubai

“Star Trek” is boldly going where it has not gone before.

The Dubai Film and TV Commission announced Sunday that filmmakers will shoot scenes for the third installment of the rebooted “Star Trek” series in the skyscraper-studded Gulf city.

Filming is expected to begin in October, with the Justin Lin-directed picture set for release in July 2016.

Dubai and neighboring Abu Dhabi are finding increasing success in their bids to lure more filmmakers to the emirates.

Dubai’s record-breaking Burj Khalifa skyscraper played a starring role in 2011’s “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol.” J.J. Abrams, who helmed the last two “Star Trek” films, shot parts of the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII” in Abu Dhabi. The city was also a location for the most recent “Fast & Furious” movie installment.
