Nick Jonas To Receive Hero Award At Radio Disney Music Awards (Exclusive)

Nick Jonas
is being hailed as a hero.

The
multi-platinum music star will receive the Hero Award at the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards, Access Hollywood can reveal exclusively.

Nick’s honor
stems from his philanthropic work with the Type 1 diabetes community, Radio
Disney told Access in a statement on Tuesday. The cause is a personal one for
Nick, as he was diagnosed with the illness at just 13 years old. Now 24, the
singer, songwriter and actor has given back through Beyond Type 1, a non-profit
organization he co-founded.

According to a press release, Beyond Type 1 “leverages the power of social media and technology” to facilitate “funding for research, education, advocacy” and other programs to improve quality of life for those battling the disease.

Nick’s good friend Jack Black will present him the honor during the April 29 ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, but he could receive more accolades throughout the evening.  He’s also nominated in three Radio Disney Music Award categories, including Best Male Artist.
