Nicole Kidman On Taking On Grace Kelly: ‘I Hope I Captured Her Essence’

Nicole Kidman is stepping into royal shoes for the upcoming film “Grace of Monaco.”

Nicole took on the role of famed Hollywood actress Grace Kelly (who became Princess Grace when she married Monaco’s Prince Rainier III) for the film, due out later this year.

On the red carpet at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 2013 Installation Luncheon at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Tuesday, Nicole spoke with Access Hollywood about taking on the icon.

“It was a real honor to play her,” the actress said.

“I hope I captured her essence,” Nicole continued. “I mean, you never know, but it won’t be for lack of trying.”

At the HFPA event, Nicole was on hand to pick up a hefty check for The Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by Martin Scorsese in 1990, whose mission includes film preservation.

“It’s $350,000, which is terrific,” she said. “It’s very, very hard to raise money now, especially for things like film preservation.”

Nicole said she knows the work that The Film Foundation does is important.

“I couldn’t imagine my life without the films that formed me,” she said.

“Grace of Monaco” hits theaters on December 19.
