Nicole Richie is engaged!
The former reality starlet and fashion designer announced the news of her impending nuptials with rocker Joel Madden during an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Monday night.
“Are you engaged? Are you planning to get married?” Dave asked her in the interview which will air on Friday, February 19.
“We actually recently are engaged, yes,” Nicole revealed.
“Congratulations… a lot of people will have children and then they don’t want to rush right into marriage – you know, they wait ‘til the kids get out of college, then they get married,” Dave joked.
Joel – the lead singer of Good Charlotte – also Tweeted the news on Monday night.
“Yep. i’m engaged. Very happy. Yeah we’ve been engaged for a while so your all kind of late on that. But Thanks for the hooplah all the same,” the rocker posted on his Twitter page in a message that was later deleted from his page but archived online and re-Tweeted by many. “P.s. thats why i love my family and friends. None of them are sources. All good tight lipped people who let us enjoy it! Thanks everybody.”
The couple is expected to wed this summer, Us Weekly reported.
Nicole and Joel have been together since 2006 and have two children together — son Sparrow James Midnight, 5 months; and daughter Harlow, 2.
During her “Late Show” interview, Nicole also beamed over her two little ones.
“When you have the kids, everything changes, doesn’t it?” Dave asked her.
“It does. It sounds cheesy to say, but it does,” Nicole said. “Your whole life changes and your priorities change 100 percent….In the best way possible.”
Nicole, who served as the first celebrity guest judge of the season on Lifetime’s “Project Runway” in January, also has a new sitcom in the works with ABC.
“I am so excited to announce that I am officially working on a television project,” Nicole wrote on her official Web site when the news was announced in December. “I am creating a half hour scripted comedy for ABC in which I will be starring in, as well as producing.”
The star explained her comedy “revolves around a young, modern and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships.”
“She must deal with, and navigate the many ideas of what a woman’s role is: modern vs. traditional,” the budding series actress wrote.
Nicole was previously engaged to Adam Goldstein – aka DJ AM. However, the couple split in 2005 after a nine-month engagement.
