No Sitcom For Britney & Diddy Talks Spears’ VMA Set

Despite reports to the contrary, pop star Britney Spears is not a contender for a role opposite Matthew Perry, in a new NBC comedy.

A rep for NBC told Access Hollywood that an item in Liz Smith’s column in Variety, suggesting that the pop star was being looked at fora potential sitcom starring the former “Friends” actor, is “untrue.”

Smith reported that Perry is “attached” to a comedy going by the title “Occasional Wife.” Smith also reported that an NBC head honcho told her, sometime before Spears’ 2007 MTV VMA’s performance that “there’s something about her that just connects with the audience, and they want her to succeed now in spite of her adversity.”

However a publicist for the network told Access Hollywood, the report is false.

Meanwhile, in related news, Diddy has spoken out about his own time with Britney in the run up to the VMAs.

Diddy spoke to Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, telling our co-host that the “Toxic” star was not drinking prior to her opening slot on the show.

“The times that I was around her, in her defense, she don’t (sic) drink any alcohol. I didn’t see her drink. You know I was hospitable, I offered everybody a drink and you know she had water,” he said.

Instead of resting up for her comeback, Britney reportedly partied until 3 and 4 AM on both Friday and Saturday night.

“At 3am when you see her, as a performer do you say to yourself ‘you should be going to sleep now, you are opening the VMA’s tomorrow,‘” Billy asked Diddy.

“Everybody has their own way,” he replied. “Some people deal with, you know, nerves, they can’t go to sleep and you don’t know what the problem is. To just say ‘Oh, her career is over she [is] done,’ to discount all her work beforehand because she is a human being — we all go through hard times.”
