Norman Reedus On ‘Air’ & Daryl’s ‘Walking Dead’ Season 6 ‘Trouble’

Those who watched “The Walking Dead’s” Season 6 Comic-Con trailer know things don’t look good for Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon.

In the clip’s coda, Daryl had his hands bound and an unknown man was pointing a gun to his head.

“He’s in a lot of trouble. I won’t lie, he’s in some trouble,” Norman told Access Hollywood, as he hit the black carpet at the Skybound fifth anniversary celebration and “Air” premiere party at Comic-Con over the weekend in San Diego.

But, perhaps our fears can be allayed. “TWD” Executive Producer David Alpert said at the event that we should remember to never count out a Dixon.

“What we’ve seen of anything out of the Dixon boys, they’re smart,” David said, before we paid a quick homage to the departed Merle.

“They know what they’re doing. They’ve been in some scrapes you know, they’ve been in some dust ups with the law. These guys are resourceful, and I would just say this… look, we just made a movie with Norman Reedus. You always bet on Norman Reedus, always bet on Norman Reedus,” the EP added.

That movie — from Skybound Entertainment — is called “Air,” and pairs up Norman with Djimon Hounsou as two men with a big task. Living in a world with depleted breathable air following a nuclear event, the men wake up in an underground bunker, and must get to work preserving what’s left of civilization, only for something to go wrong.

“One person sort of sees himself as a scientist, and the other one sort of sees himself as a janitor and one has hope and the other one thinks someone is f***ing with them,” Norman said of the characters he and Djimon play.

And, with the theme of a depleted oxygen supply, and scenes in tunnels and bunkers, expect a closed-in feel.

“When I read the script it had a really claustrophobic feel to it and I had hoped that it always maintained that. My manager read it, and she’s like, ‘God, I hope they keep it claustrophobic,’ and I’m like, ‘Right!’ And then I called [‘Air’ director] Christian [Cantamessa] and he’s like, ‘What do you think?’ I’m like, ‘Can you keep it as claustrophobic as possible?’ and he did,” Norman said.

Norman is currently filming “TWD” Season 6 in Atlanta, Ga., alongside his co-stars, but we had to ask if the heavy presence of Lennie James’ Morgan in the new trailer for the AMC series’ return means the British actor is in more than one episode this season.

“I hope so,” Norman said. “You never know on this show.

“His storyline was so important from the beginning,” Norman continued. “He left such a big footprint. It feels like he’s been with us the whole time, but he’s such a great addition to the show, so I’m excited.”

“The Walking Dead” returns for Season 6 on October 11 on AMC. “Air” hits theaters on August 14.
