Olivia Munn On Her Less-Than-Cool Days: I Used To Eat Lunch ‘With The Old Librarians’

Olivia Munn has no shortage of fans now, but back when she was in school, she couldn’t even find peers to eat lunch with.

“All the kids were cliqued up. I would end up eating with the old librarians,” the brainy beauty told the June/July issue of Esquire magazine.

Olivia has been on the cover of Maxim magazine twice, and she told Esquire she did it the second time to make a point.

“I was on ‘The Daily Show’ and there was this Web site that wanted to criticize me, saying, ‘How could she be on the cover of Maxim and be on this smart show?’ So I did the cover of Maxim again. Because, you know what? Don’t you want for your own daughters to grow up and be smart and funny and beautiful and embrace their sexuality?” she told Esquire.

The actress, who stars in Aaron Sorkin’s “The Newsroom,” which returns to HBO on July 14 for Season 2, said she got her sense of humor as a child. It was something that came out of taking up residency in city after city.

“In my life, I moved around a lot… you’re constantly the new kid, because you’re a military family. Oklahoma, Utah, Japan, different parts of Japan — and humor and being self-deprecating and sarcastic was the thing that could break ice in every situation,” Olivia said. “And so it’s a very antiquated idea to think that you can’t be pretty and smart and funny.”
