On The Download: Deer Tick

It’s only half way through ‘09 and I’ve already made my choice for album of the year – Deer Tick’s “Born On Flag Day.” The Brooklyn quartet’s sophomore release (along with their previous album “War Elephant”) really embodies everything I love about music. Powerful and unforgettable lyrics and vocals from singer/guitarist John Joseph McCauley II, hypnotic guitars reminiscent of ‘60s bands like the Animals or the Rolling Stones, and ragged yet beautifully written and arranged country-tinged songs.

To put it bluntly – I haven’t said this about a new band in quite sometime, but – I LOVE THIS BAND. I could bore you with a bio, tell you that Rolling Stone Magazine named them as the #1 band to come out of this years SXSW festival in Austin, or that NBC’s resident indie rock loving nightly news anchor Brian Williams is a huge fan, but I’d rather you just download both of their albums and experience them for yourself, I know you’ll thank me for it….
