Once Upon A Time’s Lana Parrilla: Regina Isn’t Afraid Of Peter Pan

On ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” the gang from Storybrooke may be exploring the dangers of Neverland in their quest to find Henry, but Lana Parrilla’s Regina/Evil Queen isn’t scared of this season’s villain — Peter Pan.

“I don’t think she really understands this Pan character,” Lana said when ABC flew AccessHollywood.com up to the Vancouver set of “Once” recently, where they made us their guests. “He’s a teenager and I think that’s how she looks at it and she’s never interacted with him, so I don’t think she fears him the way others fear him. He’s kind of a mystery to her. … Someone’s like, ‘He’s a big scary monster,’ and you’re like, ‘Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it.’ It’s that kind of thing and I don’t think she really buys how powerful he is just yet.”

In the gang’s quest to defeat Pan and rescue Henry, Regina has been able to use her magic in Neverland. She recently cast a spell on the map Pan gave to Emma to make the map lead the Storybrooke group to Pan, but Lana told reporters on the set visit that using her powers in the new territory isn’t safe.

“Using magic in Neverland is almost like giving off smoke signals,” Lana told reporters. “You almost have to be really careful and cautious when you use it, how you use it. It’s that kind of thing in Neverland. It’s a little different than what it was in Storybrooke, but it’s not recommended to use magic in Neverland.”

While she’s stuck in business attire on the Season 3 journey, some of the flashback scenes on the fairytale series have showed off Regina’s most stunning looks to date, designed by Eduardo Castro, and Lana has been having fun with all of them.

“I love playing the Evil Queen. I do,” she said when Access asked about her Season 3 looks. “It’s kind of like you get to just live out this fantasy… and be this crazy bold character and be a raging b**** to everyone and get away with it, and that’s a lot of fun. The costumes are very elaborate, as we’ve seen, but I feel this season they’re a little more runway. It’s like, you know, Evil Queen Couture.”

She’s also been enjoying her storyline, which in the season premiere earlier this month, saw Regina and Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) involved in a full blown catfight on Captain Hook’s ship, the Jolly Roger.

“I feel like I’m a little rougher than she is, but she’s super careful and very professional. So it was like, she would grab my — not really even grab my hair, she would just make a fist and pretend like she was grabbing my hair and I would do the same, and we would just kind of move our heads side to side… Then we would just start laughing because it was just hilarious,” Lana said of filming the scene. “I’m sure it was fun to watch.”

“Once Upon a Time” airs Sunday at 8/7c on ABC.
